During the Krystian Dulewicz Film Workshops and CLOSE Exchange, young people from Poland, Germany and Ukraine created three short film études. Their work went beyond language and cultural barriers.
At the 11th edition of the WAMA Film Festival, emerging young artists at the start of their careers had the opportunity to create short films under the guidance of seasoned professionals: Karolina Węglorz-Zima, Kuba Bastkowski and Karim Kourani. See the results!
WAMA’S GOT TALENT
“WAMA’S GOT TALENT” – created by Karim Kourani’s group, presents the impact of the war in Ukraine on the lives of the country’s youth in a non-obvious way. Young filmmakers tackled this challenging subject with humor, bringing smiles to the audience during the gala that concluded the educational programs.
REBORN
Coming from different cultures and speaking different languages, we sometimes struggle to communicate with words. Is there another way to get along? The group led by Kuba Bastkowski demonstrated—through the story of two teenagers from completely different countries—that there is.
MISPLACED
The étude “Misplaced” was created by young people who had to break down internal barriers by honestly discussing the war happening right next to them. The workshop participants, focusing on a teenage girl burdened by Russian oppression, presented the emotions of not only the main character, but also those who find it hard to understand the Ukrainians’ situation.
The études created during the Krystian Dulewicz Film Workshops and the CLOSE Exchange are not just films, but moving expressions of young people, their reaction to the world and the challenges that were set out for them. The young people proved that audiovisual art can transcend language and cultural barriers, facilitating dialogue based on emotion, empathy and universal values. Every étude – from the humorous to the reflective, and the profoundly true – showcases how dedicated young creators are to engage in an honest conversation about the world.
